Yolo County sheriff’s detectives have arrested a 64-year-old Shafter man for the attempted murder of an Arbuckle man on Oct. 1 on County Line Road in Dunnigan. Danny Joe Stearman, 64, was arrested Oct. 9 in Shafter, just north of Bakersfield, with assistance from Shafter police.

The victim, a 49-year-old man, was found by a co-worker lying on the side of the road with stab wounds to his upper body and head. Detectives later determined the man had been shot as well.

Based on information from the victim, detectives obtained a warrant for Stearman’s arrest, which took place without incident in Shafter. Stearman was transported to the Yolo County Jail and booked for attempted homicide. Bail has not been set.

On Tuesday, Stearman was arraigned on charges of conspiracy, attempted murder, assault with a firearm and assault with a weapon other than a firearm.

A motive for the crime has not yet been determined.

“I don’t have any additional information on that; that’s still being investigated,” Yolo County Sheriff’s Sgt. Lance Faille told The Enterprise on Wednesday.

The victim has since been released from the hospital.

Anyone with information about this case is urged to call the Yolo County Sheriff’s Investigations Unit at 530-668-5212.
