Two people were burned, one of them seriously, in a fire that broke out Wednesday night along Highway 113 in Davis.
Davis Fire Department Division Chief Bruce Fry said the victims were in a homeless encampment along the highway near the West Covell Boulevard overpass. Crews were responding to reports of a grass fire at about 8:50 p.m. when “additional information came in that there was a body on fire.”
Although the fire was small in size, it resulted in burns to more than 50 percent of one man’s body, primarily his legs and torso, according to Fry. He was transported to the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, where information about his condition was not immediately available this morning.
The other man, who sustained minor burns, received medical treatment at Sutter Davis Hospital, Fry said.
Investigators from both the Davis fire and police departments are looking into the cause of the fire.
