WOODLAND — A Davis woman’s trial on allegations that she drowned her young daughter appears on track to begin next week.
Aquelin Crystal Talamantes, 29, has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to allegations that she fatally assaulted 5-year-old Tatiana Garcia on the afternoon of Sept. 26, 2013, at the family’s Glide Drive home, then drove to a relative’s apartment in Sacramento with the girl’s body in the trunk of her car.
Talamantes’ trial is scheduled to begin May 7, with a final status conference set for two days earlier.
During a brief hearing Friday in Yolo Superior Court, Judge Stephen Mock distributed various documents that had been subpoenaed in the case, including banking, hospital and Internet records, as well as evidence regarding various social services Talamantes apparently had received prior to her daughter’s death.
Talamantes remains in custody at the Yolo County Jail, where she also stands accused of assaulting two correctional officers during a scuffle back in February. That case is being handled separately from the homicide case.
