A 24-year-old West Sacramento woman turned herself in to authorities Wednesday night in connection with alleged arson fires that disrupted operations at the Yolo County Courthouse earlier that day.
Janessa Arlene Rivers was accompanied by two deputy public defenders when she turned herself in to sheriff’s investigators, who, following an interview, arrested her on suspicion of arson and vandalism, sheriff’s Capt. Larry Cecchettini said. She was lodged at the Yolo County Jail.
Cecchettini said Rivers is suspected of setting fires at four entrances to the historic court building between 10:30 p.m. Tuesday and 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, causing minor damage and delaying the courthouse’s opening until about 10 a.m. while authorities investigated the scene and ventilated the building.
Rivers was scheduled to be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Yolo Superior Court. Her bail is set at $150,000.
