Authorities say a Woodland pair arrested for allegedly stealing merchandise from Target in Davis could be linked to more than a dozen thefts from the retail store’s Woodland and Davis locations.
Monique Marie Wynant, 32, and Robert James Richey II, 33, were taken into custody Sunday evening outside the Second Street store, where, according to Davis police Lt. Tom Waltz, they had taken watches, electronics, baby clothing and other items without paying.
“They’ve been watched by Target security for quite a while,” Waltz said Thursday. A probation search conducted following the arrests revealed evidence “that these individuals were responsible for previous shopliftings at Target stores in Davis and Woodland.”
According to Waltz, Wynant and Richey have since been linked to at least five thefts from the Davis location, cases that have been forwarded to the Yolo County District Attorney’s Office for review. Their alleged crimes at the Woodland store are still being investigated.
“It’s more than a handful,” said Woodland police Sgt. Brett Hancock, whose agency is still working with Target security personnel to tally the losses.
Meanwhile, both Wynant and Richey remain in custody at the Yolo County Jail, where Wynant faces four counts of burglary and is being held in lieu of $60,000 bail. Richey, facing a single burglary count along with a misdemeanor warrant out of Sacramento County, has a $30,000 bail amount.
