The second of two men convicted of attempted murder and other crimes in connection with a Dunnigan ambush was sentenced Friday to 40 years to life in prison, the Yolo County District Attorney’s Office announced.
Prosecutors said 55-year-old David Earl Bristow of Bakersfield was a hired hit man in the Oct. 1, 2012, attack, in which the victim was confronted while on his way to work. According to District Attorney Jeff Reisig, the victim was shot in the back of the head, stabbed and run down with his own vehicle before being left on the side of the road to die.
The victim survived the attack, calling a co-worker from the roadside to come to his aid.
Bristow’s co-defendant, Shafter resident Danny Joe Stearman, 65 — the uncle of the victim’s ex-wife — was sentenced last month to 29 years to life in prison for his role in the attempted killing, Reisig said. Both defendants were found guilty of attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder and assault charges.
