A jailhouse scuffle has led to additional charges being filed against a Davis woman already accused of drowning her daughter.
Aquelin Crystal Talamantes was scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon on two felony counts of battery on a correctional officer and one misdemeanor count of resisting arrest in connection with the incident, which authorities say occurred on the evening of Feb. 14.
According to Yolo County Sheriff’s Capt. Larry Cecchettini, the 29-year-old Talamantes was allowed time outside of her jail cell but refused to go back inside when her time was up. Talamantes allegedly became “physically uncooperative” with a female correctional officer, prompting a second officer — also female — to come to the first officer’s aid.
“While the two correctional officers tried to restrain her, Talamantes broke free from their grip and began punching the officers with closed fists and spitting on them,” Cecchettini said. Eventually, the officers were able to control Talamantes and handcuff her.
One of the officers sustained cuts to her face as a result of the punches, while the other reported muscle injuries stemming from the struggle, Cecchettini said. Talamantes was arrested at the jail on Friday following an investigation into the incident.
Talamantes has been in custody at the jail since Sept. 26, when police arrested her on suspicion of drowning her 5-year-old daughter, Tatiana Garcia, at the family’s Glide Drive home, then driving to a relative’s apartment in Sacramento with the girl’s body in the trunk of her car.
A trial in the homicide case is scheduled to begin May 7.
