The California Highway Patrol has arrested a Woodland man on vehicular manslaughter and drunken-driving charges in connection with a July 31, 2013, crash near Capay that left a motorcyclist dead.
Denis Fred Bartz Sr., 61, of Knights Landing, was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision on County Road 85 near Road 15B, which the CHP said occurred when 60-year-old Manuel Perez of Woodland turned left from a gravel road onto northbound Road 85, failing to notice the Harley Davidson approaching southbound.
Bartz struck the left front of Perez’s Ford Ranger and was thrown from his motorcycle, suffering fatal injuries when he struck the roadway, the CHP reported at the time. Bartz died at the scene
Following a six-month investigation, the CHP on Tuesday obtained a warrant for Perez’s arrest, charging him with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving while under the influence of alcohol, CHP Officer Bryan Konvalin said. Perez was arrested on Wednesday and lodged at the Yolo County Jail.
