A pedestrian fatality on Highway 50 in West Sacramento this morning snarled commute traffic for several hours.
The vehicle-versus-pedestrian accident occurred just east of the Interstate 80 interchange at about 6:05 a.m., several minutes after someone reported seeing a person in dark clothing walking on the right side of the highway, according to the California Highway Patrol’s traffic information website.
Reports indicate the pedestrian may have run into traffic at one point. Officials from the Yolo County coroner’s office were dispatched to the scene.
Two lanes of the highway were closed for the accident investigation and were not expected to reopen until about 10 a.m. Westbound traffic was being diverted to I-5 in Sacramento to avoid the accident scene, the CHP reported.
