Some Woodland residents got a shock early Saturday morning when an alleged drunken driver crashed into their yard, police said.
Sgt. Steve Sexton said Woodland resident Robert L. Williams, 26, was under the influence of alcohol when he struck a tree in the front yard of a home at the intersection of Mariposa and West Woodland avenues shortly before 2:30 a.m.
Witnesses reported seeing several people run from the wreckage, and Williams was apprehended about a half-hour later on the Woodland High School baseball field, Sexton said. Officers also located a 22-year-old male passenger who was taken to Woodland Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Williams, who was not hurt, was lodged at the Yolo County Jail on suspicion of felony DUI and hit-and-run.
