An investigation into a series of residential burglaries led to the arrests of three people last week for allegedly possessing stolen property, Davis police said.

Lt. Paul Doroshov said officers served two search warrants Thursday at homes in East and South Davis, recovering property such as electronics, computers and jewelry and seizing more than two pounds of marijuana.

Arrested were Joshua Givens, 21, of Davis and Rakhem Bradford, 21, of Oakland on suspicion of distribution and possession of stolen property and possession of marijuana; and Joseph Kaleimanu Hernandez, 22, of Davis on active warrants, Doroshov said.

According to Doroshov, the city of Davis has experienced an increase in residential burglaries over the past year, and much of the stolen property is believed to have been traded for drugs or sold for profit.

“Stopping the trend, and apprehending the burglars, has been a high priority for the Police Department,” Doroshov said in a news release. “We would like to remind the public to be cautious when purchasing second-hand electronics from individuals at bargain rates. While there are many great bargains to be had, use caution to avoid purchasing stolen property. If a transaction seems suspicious, walk away, and notify the police.”
