Davis police have identified the man accused of walking door-to-door, soliciting donations from residents for an organization that assists underprivileged youth, but then altering the payee name on personal checks and changing the amount given.

The Police Department released a photo Thursday of the suspect, Anthony Maurice McCune, 28, a West Sacramento resident who’s been described as an African-American male, 5-foot-6, weighing 150 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

The suspect is normally dressed in nice attire and sometimes wears a tie, according to the police press release.

“McCune has been known to speak with a Southern accent and has spoken about is upbringing in Alabama,” the release said.

Davis police received complaints in June and July from two residents who reported giving money to McCune and the organization Urban Development Solutions, a charitable organization that assists underprivileged youths, but then later finding their checks had been altered.

The police have obtained an arrest warrant and continue to investigate the crimes.

Residents who have been victimized in a similar fashion have been encouraged to contact the Davis Police Department.
