Yolo County District Attorney Jeff Reisig, in conjunction with the Yolo County Association of Realtors, announces the launch of the Yolo County Real Estate Fraud Advisory Team.
This advisory board was formed to help Yolo County residents from becoming victims of real estate fraud. The board is composed of real estate, mortgage and title professionals as well as representatives from the Yolo County Clerk-Recorder, Assessor and District Attorney’s offices.
The Yolo County Real Estate Fraud Advisory Team brings together industry professionals and law enforcement to help protect residents of Yolo County from becoming victims of predatory scams and other fraud directed at those involved in real estate transactions. The advisory team will educate professionals and consumers about how to protect against, detect and report suspicious or fraudulent behavior or practices.
The team’s outreach activities will be focused on educating the community and professionals in an effort to enhance consumer protection, professional integrity and to provide law enforcement with the necessary tools to address real estate fraud. Enforcement will be accomplished through investigation and prosecution by members of the Real Estate Fraud Unit at the District Attorney’s Office.
Awareness has proved to be the most successful way of preventing real estate and related fraud. Local residents who know of fraudulent activities, including real estate fraud, are asked to call the district attorney’s fraud hot line at 855-4-YOLO DA (855-496-5632). Instructions are available in English, Spanish and Russian.
Reports of suspected fraud also can be made online at www.yoloda.org/fraud.htm.
