Davis police arrested a local woman and her son on drug and weapon charges Tuesday during an investigation into a series of burglaries.
Jessie Herrera, 35, and 19-year-old Vicente Herrera were taken into custody at their apartment at 2526 E. Eighth St., where Davis police, working in cooperation with the Yolo County Narcotics Enforcement Team, served a search warrant, Lt. Glenn Glasgow said Wednesday.
During the operation, officers seized more than a dozen items believed to be stolen during local burglaries, most of them valuable electronics such as computers, tablets and music-playing devices, Glasgow said.
Police also reported finding marijuana intended for sale, two handguns, ammunition and an illegal gun magazine, according to Glasgow.
“As of right now we have been able to confirm that some of the property that was recovered came from vehicle burglaries,” Glasgow said. “We believe (Vicente Herrera) is just part of a larger group (of suspects) that we’re still trying to identify.”
Three children, ranging in age from 6 to 16, were taken into protective custody during Tuesday’s operation, Glasgow said.
Both Jessie and Vicente Herrera were lodged at the Yolo County Jail on charges of felony child endangerment, possession of marijuana for sale, being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a high-capacity firearms magazine and conspiracy.
Glasgow said Jessie Herrera faces an additional charge for allegedly trying to dispose of evidence as the warrant was being served.
Vicente Herrera remained in jail custody Wednesday in lieu of $50,000 bail.
Police are in the process of locating the owners of the seized property, Glasgow said. Anyone who believes they are missing property that has not yet been reported stolen is encouraged to call the Davis Police Department at 530-747-5400.
