WOODLAND — The often lengthy process of collecting and reviewing evidence led to preliminary hearing delays for two high-profile cases this week in Yolo Superior Court.
The attorney for Troy Anthony Hensley, a former Dixon youth coach accused of having an unlawful sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl in Davis, sought a continuance Monday after telling Judge David Rosenberg he had received thousands of pages’ worth of evidence — including texts, phone and GPS records — just several days earlier.
Hensley’s preliminary hearing — in which a judge determines whether there is sufficient evidence for a case to proceed to trial — was reset for Aug. 26. Hensley, 37, has pleaded not guilty to charges including 24 counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor and two counts alleging that he threatened the Dixon teenager.
Hensley remains free on $450,000 bail.
On Wednesday, Judge Timothy Fall continued the preliminary hearing in a fatal hit-and-run case in Woodland after the defense attorney said she had yet to receive certain items of evidence in the matter, while the prosecutor said one of the initial police officers on the scene was unavailable to testify.
Defendant Kristal Ellen Sutton, 28, was ordered to return to court Aug. 27 for the hearing.
Sutton has pleaded not guilty to a felony hit-and-run charge in connection with the June 30 death of Alisa Valerie Horner, 58, who according to authorities suffered fatal injuries after being struck by Sutton’s vehicle outside a 7-Eleven store on East Main Street. Police arrested Sutton later that night at her Woodland apartment.
Sutton is free on $75,000 bail while her case is pending.
