WOODLAND — Arraignment proceedings for the man suspected of participating in a Davis indecent-exposure incident were postponed until this week so that the defendant could hire an attorney to represent him.
Nicholas Robert Bowen has since been bailed out from the Yolo County Jail, but was still in custody when he appeared in Yolo Superior Court on Friday for a formal reading of the charges against him, including one felony and three misdemeanors.
The 61-year-old Grizzly Flats resident told Commissioner Janene Beronio he had tried to contact the lawyer who has represented him “in the past” from the jail, but was unsuccessful.
Beronio agreed to postpone the proceedings until Tuesday so that Bowen could find a lawyer.
“This is a felony (case), so you probably should be represented,” Beronio said.
Davis police say Bowen, a branch manager for the California Department of Public Health, photographed fellow state employee Wenyi Xu as she exposed herself to two children biking through Community Park on Wednesday morning.
Bowen is charged with a felony count of conspiracy to commit a misdemeanor, as well as misdemeanor counts of lewd and obscene exhibition, child annoyance and disorderly conduct. Xu, who faces similar charges, is due for arraignment on Aug. 9
A woman and two men who were in the court audience Friday confirmed they were there for Bowen’s case but declined to comment to reporters.
