1 arrested, several at large after Rumsey pot heist

Several suspects remain at large following a rural Yolo County cannabis-farm burglary that led to a vehicle pursuit and crash.

According to a post on the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page, deputies were dispatched at about 2:30 a.m. Saturday to reports of a burglary in process at the Ramsey grow site.

“While en route, deputies observed three vehicles traveling eastbound on State Route 16 that were believed to be involved,” the post said. “One vehicle was immediately located abandoned in Capay and two other suspect vehicles were pursued until they crashed into one another outside of Esparto, disabling one of them.”

Two people fled the crash scene on foot, one of whom — Sacramento resident Kevin Toney, 23 — was apprehended. The second vehicle involved in the crash was later found abandoned in Esparto, still containing a large amount of marijuana, sheriff’s officials said.

Toney was booked into the Yolo County Jail on suspicion of burglary, grand theft and conspiracy, while the outstanding suspects are believed to have made off with about $20,000 worth of marijuana.

Anyone with additional information about this case is urged to contact the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office at 530-668-5280 or 530-666-8282, or leave an anonymous tip at 530-668-5248.
