A homicide investigation is underway in West Sacramento after one woman allegedly stabbed another woman to death Wednesday afternoon, police said.
Sgt. Eric Angle said officers were summoned at about 12:30 p.m. to reports of a fight involving weapons in the 900 block of Sacramento Avenue.
“Our dispatch center received several 911 calls reporting that two women were fighting, and one was armed with a knife,” Angle said. “Units responded to the scene and detained a woman who was pointed out as the suspect by independent witnesses.”
Responding officers also performed life-saving measures on the victim, who according to Angle suffered from “at least one” stab wound to her upper torso. She was transported to an area hospital but died from her injuries.
Yolo County coroner’s officials identified her Thursday as Raechel McGrath, 32, of West Sacramento.
The suspect, 53-year-old Esther Garcia of West Sacramento, was booked into the Yolo County Jail on a murder count and no-bail hold. She’s scheduled to make her first Yolo Superior Court appearance at 1:30 p.m. Friday.
Angle said an investigation is continuing into the relationship between the two women and the motive for the fatal altercation.
