Davis police arrested a 26-year-old man Monday morning after he allegedly tried to sexually assault a female neighbor inside her Sycamore Lane apartment.

According to a Davis Police Department news release, officers were summoned at about 9:45 a.m. to investigate the reported attack, which occurred at the apartment complex in the 700 block of Sycamore Lane.

“The female victim reported that a male neighbor who was visiting her apartment began to undress, voiced his intent to have sex, and, using physical force, restrained her,” the news release said. “When the victim screamed for help, two roommates responded and were able to push the suspect out of the apartment.”

The suspect, identified as Davis resident Jeanpierre Millard Papouloute, fled the scene on foot, but officers later tracked him down in the area of West Eighth Street and Parkside Drive. He was booked into the Yolo County Jail on felony charges of assault with intent to commit a sex crime, burglary and false imprisonment, police said.

The investigation of this incident is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Davis Police Department at 530-747-5400.
