Davis police arrested an employee of a local skilled-nursing facility this week on suspicion of elder abuse.
Eric Keahi Guerzon, 26, was taken into custody shortly before 8:30 p.m. Monday at Courtyard Healthcare Center, 1850 E. Eighth St., after staff there summoned officers to investigate a “possible elder abuse” report earlier in the evening, Lt. Art Camacho said.
“The officers formed a suspicion that Guerzon, a certified nursing assistant, placed a pillow over the head of a patient,” Camacho said. He declined to specify how police reached that conclusion, saying it could compromise the ongoing investigation.
Camacho said the patient, an 82-year-old woman, did not sustain any injuries. Calls to Courtyard seeking comment Tuesday afternoon were not returned.
Guerzon was booked into the Yolo County Jail on a felony elder-abuse charge but was no longer in custody there as of Tuesday.
