The Davis Police Department is seeking a person of interest in connection with an attempted sexual assault that occurred late Sunday night in East Davis.
Police said the person was seen walking in the vicinity of the assault — the 1800 block of Birch Lane — about 30 minutes prior to the incident. A video of the person, taken from a home in the neighborhood, has been posted on the Police Department’s Facebook page.
View the video at https://www.facebook.com/CityofDavisPoliceDepartment/. The nine seconds of footage shows a wearing a light-colored hooded jacket or sweatshirt walking past the residence.
“This person is not a suspect of any crime, but we would like for them to come forward in the hopes that we learn more about this case,” police said in the Facebook post. “We would also like to speak to people who might be able to identify the man in the video.”
Meanwhile, police are continuing their investigation into the assault, which occurred at about 11:45 p.m. after the woman parked her car in her driveway. As she walked toward her front door, the suspect assaulted her from behind, forced her to the ground and attempted to sexually assault her.
He fled when the woman fought back and kicked at him, police said. Unable to get a clear look at her attacker, the woman described the suspect only as a male wearing a puffy jacket made of “squishy” material, police said. No weapons were seen, and the woman did not report any physical injuries.
Anyone with information about the person of interest, or about the crime itself, is urged to contact Detective Ron Trn at 530-747-5418.
