A West Sacramento man on probation for vehicle theft was arrested by Davis police this week on a familiar charge — vehicle theft.
According to Davis police Lt. Art Camacho, 34-year-old Steve Whiteside was at the wheel of a vehicle traveling northbound on Highway 113 near Interstate 80 at about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday when an officer stopped him for having no license plates. Accompanying Whiteside were an adult female and two young children who were unrestrained in the back seat.
“The officer conducted an investigation and learned that the vehicle had been previously reported stolen out of West Sacramento,” Camacho said. On probation for the prior theft conviction, Whiteside was arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft, child endangerment and violating his probation.
Camacho said the woman and her children were released from the scene. The case has been forwarded to Yolo County Child Protective Services for further investigation, he added.
