A Sacramento man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly leading Woodland police on high-speed pursuit that ended near Sacramento International Airport.
Chase, a Woodland police K-9, sustained minor injuries during the apprehension of 27-year-old Arnold Hamilton Parker, but was back on duty as of Thursday morning, police said.
The incident began shortly before 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, when Woodland police officers were dispatched to investigate a “suspicious circumstance” at the local Motel 6, 1563 E. Main St., according to Sgt. Dallas Hyde.
“After investigating the circumstance, it was determined that a weapons violation had occurred by the subject who rented out a room at the motel as he was an individual prohibited from possessing a firearm,” Hyde said.
While trying to contact the man, later identified as Parker, he fled the motel parking lot in a vehicle and proceeded southbound on Interstate 5, reaching speeds over 100 mph before exiting at the airport, Hyde said. Parker eventually stopped the car in the area of I-5 and Bayou Way on the south side of the freeway and fled on foot toward a nearby rest stop.
“Witnesses in the area advised that they observed Parker running with what appeared to be a firearm in his hand,” Hyde said. “Parker was eventually apprehended by K-9 Chase after hiding in thick vegetation and taken into custody without further incident.”
Officers transported Parker to Woodland Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries before booking him into the Yolo County Jail on evading and other charges, Hyde said. The incident remains under investigation, and officers are still seeking the handgun reportedly observed by witnesses.
Chase, who sustained minor lacerations during Parker’s apprehension, was examined by a veterinarian and cleared to return to duty.
