Woodland police said Thursday they are following up on several leads in this week’s shooting death of a 16-year-old Esparto boy, but released little else in the way of new information in the case.

Alvaro “Vago” Gamera was killed Monday night at the intersection of North and East streets, where witnesses reported hearing a hail of gunfire shortly after 7 p.m. Two other males sustained injuries that were not life-threatening.

A small memorial has been erected at the shooting site, with religious pictures and candles, as well as a vase of small pebbles.

Meanwhile, a GoFundMe page has been established to help cover funeral expenses for Gamera, who would have celebrated his 17th birthday on Wednesday. On it, he is described as a “beloved son, brother, uncle and friend.”

“He was a kind hearted, happy guy. Every time he came around he always managed to put a smile on everyone’s face,” the page says. “He still had a whole life ahead of him. ..Keep him in your prayers. #JusticeForAlvaro #Vagos.”

Nearly $1,700 of $8,000 requested had been raised as of Thursday afternoon on the site: https://www.gofundme.com/f/His-Funeral-and-other-costs.

Anyone with information about the ongoing homicide investigation is urged to contact the Woodland Police Department at 530-666-2411.
