A parolee at large who eluded Winters police Friday morning was located and taken into custody that afternoon, the Winters Police Department reported on its Facebook page.
Carlos Juarez III, 39, was arrested shortly before 3 p.m., just over six hours after officers first encountered him while responding to a traffic hazard and learning he was wanted for a parole violation in a prior vehicle-theft case.
Juarez allegedly fled from officers, cutting through the Winters Elementary School campus where children were attending a summer-camp program and through residential yards in the area of Grant Avenue and Main Street, police said. Yolo County sheriff’s deputies were summoned to assist in the search.
Police booked Juarez into the Yolo County Jail on the parole-violation warrant as well as a charge of obstructing/resisting officers.
“Officers are currently investigating Juarez regarding additional criminal charges. We will provide an update regarding the additional charges pending the result of the investigation,” the Facebook post says. “We would like to thank the community for their patience during this incident and helping us apprehend Juarez.”
