A newly formed Yolo County Special Investigations Unit arrested two Woodland men Friday following searches at two residences in that city.

Comprising detectives from the Yolo County Sheriff’s Department, Davis and Woodland police departments and the Yolo County District Attorney’s Office, the SIU’s mission is to reduce crime in Yolo County by pursuing career criminals and criminal networks, and seizing illegal firearms and other dangerous weapons, said Deputy Chief Paul Doroshov of the Davis Police Department, which manages the unit.

On Friday, SIU detectives served search warrants at homes in the first block of Cottonwood Street and the 100 block of Mariposa Street in Woodland, confiscating 3-1/4 pounds of methamphetamine and 16.5 grams of heroin as well as a stolen shotgun, Doroshov said.

Arrested were Timothy Lee Bottorf, 54, on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance and possession of ammunition by a prohibited person; and John McChesney, 48, on charges of possession and transportation of a controlled substance for sales, possession of a firearm by prohibited person and possession of stolen property.
