The Davis Police Department has issued a pair of reminders to the public after experiencing an increase in reports of dogs being off leash and the theft of recyclables from curbside containers.
It is a city code violation to have your dog off leash except at your private residence or public areas expressly provided and designated for their exercise, such as dog parks.
The following is a list of dog parks and other exercise areas where dogs may remain off leash as long as they are under the owner’s control: https://cityofdavis.org/city-hall/parks-and-community-services/parks-and-open-space/dog-parks.
Also, it is a city code violation to steal recyclables once they are placed in a city or contractor-provided container, police say. Once those recyclables are placed in the containers and the containers are placed on the curb, they become the property of the city or the city’s contract hauler.
The fines for city code violations range from $100 for the first violation to $500 for three or more violations within one year.
