A $2,500 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the person or people responsible for the fatal shooting of a pet cat earlier this month in Woodland.

The reward is being offered by RedRover, a national nonprofit animal-protection organization based in Sacramento, Yolo County sheriff’s spokeswoman Mark Persons said Friday. The Sheriff’s Department oversees the county’s Animal Services unit.

Annie, an orange domestic shorthair tabby, was shot with a pellet gun on the evening of March 13 while her owners were away from home. They returned to their house in the 1500 block of Owens Valley Drive to find the cat with a wound in her shoulder that left her unable to use her hind legs.

The cat received emergency treatment from the UC Davis Small Animal Clinic, where staff discovered a pellet lodged near her spine, but Annie later died from her injuries.

Anyone with information about this incident, which has been classified as an animal-cruelty case, is asked to call Animal Services at 530-668-5287, ext. 0.
