WOODLAND — The grief of a close-knit family was laid bare in a Woodland courtroom on Monday as Victor Vergara was sentenced to 22 years in state prison for the 2015 stabbing death of Los Angeles college student Peter Gonzales during an altercation at the KetMoRee nightclub in downtown Davis.
Gonzales’ parents, as well as his four older siblings, each read victim impact statements before Vergara was sentenced by Yolo Superior Court Judge David Rosenberg.
Monday’s hearing followed a plea deal reached earlier this month between Vergara and prosecutors, with Vergara pleading no contest to voluntary manslaughter and enhancements for use of a knife and criminal street-gang activity.
