Two people were hospitalized Tuesday morning following a multiple-vehicle accident east of Davis that backed up traffic into Sacramento.

California Highway Patrol Officer Bryan Konvalin said the driver of a Cadillac Allante caused the 7:30 a.m. crash when she failed to notice traffic slowing in front of her on westbound Interstate 80 east of the County Road 32A exit. The Cadillac rear-ended a Toyota Prius, which then struck a Toyota Camry before rolling over from the impact.

The Cadillac then veered from the fast lane to the slow lane, where it came to rest blocking the lane. The Prius landed upside-down in the fast lane, while the Camry straddled the fast and middle lanes. All sustained major damage.

A passenger in the Cadillac’s driver, 59-year-old Kathleen Ruse of Fort Bragg, was taken to the UC Davis Medical Center for treatment of lower back pain. Sacramento resident Lupe Martinez, 36, initially declined medical aid but fainted a short time later and also was hospitalized, Konvalin said.
