WOODLAND — One of the six defendants in a high-profile Davis homicide case has pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter, while Yolo County prosecutors planned to dismiss charges against his five co-defendants.
The resolution came just a day before jury selection in the case involving the Sept. 19, 2015, stabbing death of Los Angeles college student Peter Gonzales, 23, at the KetMoRee nightclub and Third and G streets.
Victor Vergara, 24, charged with delivering the fatal stab wound during an altercation on the nightclub’s dance floor, is expected to receive an agreed-upon 22-year state prison sentence in exchange for his no-contest plea to voluntary manslaughter, with enhancements for use of a knife and criminal street-gang activity.
