An employee of a Davis assisted living facility was arrested last week after allegedly abusing a 96-year-old resident.
Sgt. Dan Powell said administrators of Atria Covell Gardens, 1111 Alvarado Ave., called police Thursday morning after another worker found the woman inside her room with her hands bound with a belt.
Surveillance video and information from another employee led police to identify Han Zhe Zhao, 25, of Davis, as the suspect in the abuse.
“Through investigation it was discovered that Mr. Zhao was binding her hands to keep her from moving at night,” Powell said, noting that the binding left the woman unable to use her walker.
Zhao was arrested that night at his workplace and booked into the Yolo County Jail on a felony elder abuse charge.
