A 65-year-old Novato man died Sunday night after his motorcycle crashed into a vehicle on a West Sacramento freeway, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Leo Barriola was traveling westbound on Highway 50 near Harbor Boulevard shortly before 6 p.m. when his Yamaha motorcycle struck a Ford sport-utility vehicle that had come to a stop in front of him, CHP Officer Rodney Fitzhugh said.

“As a result of this collision, the driver of the Yamaha was ejected from the motorcycle” and sustained fatal injuries, Fitzhugh said. Barriola was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Ford was not injured. Fitzhugh said officers are still investigating whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision.
