One person suffered major injuries and two others also were hurt Wednesday in a six-car collision on eastbound Interstate 80 in Davis, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Officer Rodney Fitzhugh said the crash occurred shortly before 3 p.m. near the Mace Boulevard exit, where 41-year-old Peter Carlino of Roseville rear-ended a vehicle that had come to a stop in front of him, launching a chain-reaction collision that involved four other cars, either by being pushed forward into other cars or changing lanes in an attempt to avoid the initial wreckage.
Carlino sustained major injuries in the crash and was transported to the UC Davis Medical Center along with one other driver from Vallejo who had minor injuries, Fitzhugh said. A third driver also reported minor injuries but was not transported.
Neither alcohol nor drugs were believed to be factors in the incident.
