Davis police are investigating several hate incidents involving anti-Semitic symbols and messages at two local schools.
In an email to parents Tuesday morning, Davis High School Interim Principal Tom McHale said a swastika and “Sieg Heil” were found drawn on a restroom wall on the East 14th Street campus over the weekend.
Additionally, someone digitally sent a swastika to the high school and Harper Junior High School in several anonymous messages using STOPit, an application intended to allow students to anonymously report incidents of bullying.
McHale called the events “disturbing” and said a report has been filed with the Davis Police Department. School counselors have been made available to students and staff who need support, he added.
“I want to also take this opportunity to underscore that such actions are taken seriously and run counter to DJUSD policies and principles of inclusion and may be considered hate crimes by law,” McHale wrote in the email. “In our school community there is no room for intolerance. I ask for your support in helping to reinforce this message.”
Davis police Lt. Paul Doroshov confirmed Tuesday that the reports are under investigation and have been classified as hate incidents.
