A three-alarm blaze destroyed a 67,500-square-foot metal dryer building Wednesday night at Dixon Ridge Farms, an organic walnut grower and processor in Winters.

Dean Sarley, division chief for the Dixon Fire Department, said the fire broke out at about 5 p.m. at the Putah Creek Road plant, its massive size bringing in mutual aid from the Winters, Davis, Woodland, Vacaville, Fairfield and Travis fire departments who remained on scene until about midnight.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, though Sarley said it’s not believed to be suspicious in nature. The damage loss has not yet been calculated, “but it’s pretty significant,” he added.

Dixon Ridge Farms praised the firefighters’ efforts on its Facebook page.

“Tonight our dryer building caught on fire. While we are sad for the material loss, we are grateful that all of our employees are safe and thankful to the firefighters who worked to contain the fire to the one building,” the post said.

“We are also thankful to friends and our community who have stepped up with everything from dinner for the firefighters to space in their dryers to get us through the rest of harvest.”
