Alleged thieves spray clerk with mace

Two suspects fled Safeway Thursday night after macing, then shoving a store clerk when confronted for shoplifting.

Davis police Sgt. Dan Powell said that around 8:22 p.m., two men, both estimated to be in their 20s, attempted to leave with multiple items. When they were stopped by a store clerk, one suspect,  who is described as an African-American male, about 6-feet, 2-inches tall and 200 pounds, sprayed the clerk with mace and shoved him out of the way. The other suspect is described as a Hispanic male, about 6 feet tall and 180 pounds.

A bag of miscellaneous toiletries was dropped, which included razors, some pills and lotion, but the suspects escaped with unknown items. They drove away in a gray van, but the store employee did not see a license plate number.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Davis Police Department at 530-747-5400.
