Bystanders thwarted an apparent suicide attempt Sunday on a Woodland freeway overpass, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Officer Rodney Fitzhugh said the CHP office was alerted at about 2:40 p.m. of a “possible jumper” on the County Road 102 overpass over Interstate 5. They arrived to find an adult woman “who appeared to be despondent.”
“Investigating officers determined the woman began to place her leg on the overpass railing; however, witnesses were able to convince her to remove her leg and stand on the walkway,” Fitzhugh said in a news release. “The woman remained with the witnesses until officers arrived on scene.”
Due to the nature of this incident, officers ordered a medical-aid evaluation of the woman at the scene, and she was transported voluntarily to Woodland Memorial Hospital for further treatment, Fitzhugh said.
