A June 7 court hearing has been scheduled to determine whether the man convicted of causing a fatal collision in Davis last year should be retried on second-degree murder charges.
A Yolo County jury Tuesday convicted Steven Hendrix of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving under the influence of drugs causing injury and child endangerment in connection with the Feb. 24, 2016, collision that killed Cynthia Ann Jonasen on Second Street, but deadlocked 11-1 in favor of acquitting Hendrix of murder.
The charge alleges that Hendrix, 33, acted with implied malice when he drove at speeds up to 84 mph on the city roadway seconds before broadsiding Jonasen’s car. He currently faces 42 years in prison, his sentencing hearing set for July 20 unless the murder count is retried.
