Woodland police are investigating a possible gang-related shooting, after shots rang out in the 100 block of Fifth Street in Woodland just after 7 p.m. Friday.

Witnesses told officers that a lifted red Dodge truck with a silver tool box was driving northbound on Fifth Street when the truck passed two Hispanic men walking on Fifth Street. One of the men allegedly fired a handgun at the Dodge, then both men chased the vehicle on foot for a short distance as the driver sped away.

The men then got into a white Ford Mustang and sped off in the same direction as the Dodge, witnesses said. Officers responded immediately but could not find the Mustang.

Officers checked the area and did not find any people, vehicles or residences struck by gunfire, but two semi-automatic handgun shell casings were discovered in the road near the intersection of Fifth and Clover streets.

The incident is being investigated as a gang-related shooting based on the clothing description and actions of the man who fire the weapon. The Yolo County Gang Task Force was notified and will be involved in the investigation, police said.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Woodland Police Department at 530-666-2411.
