Yolo County District Attorney Jeff Reisig announced Friday that his office, along with the Riverside, San Joaquin, and Placer County district attorneys’ offices, reached a settlement with Lebanon Seaboard in an action related some of its Preen garden products.

The civil complaint filed by prosecutors alleged that Pennsylvania-based Lebanon Seaboard packaged some of the garden products manufactured under the brand name Preen in oversized containers, which can give consumers the misleading appearance that they are purchasing more product than they are actually receiving.

Yolo Superior Court Judge Samuel T. McAdam approved the settlement on April 20.  Without admitting wrongdoing, Lebanon Seaboard has agreed, as a part of the settlement, to implement improved packaging practices and to pay $175,000 in costs and penalties.

“We take packaging violations seriously. Consumers have the right to expect full value in their purchases and compliance with packaging requirements is an integral part of the process,” Reisig said.
