A group of suspects caused minor injuries to an intoxicated couple when an altercation in downtown Davis broke out early Saturday morning, according to officials.

Davis police dispatched to the scene at 1:17 a.m., on the corner of Second and G streets. The responding officers reported arriving at the aftermath of an assault on a pair of victims — a man and a woman, both of whom were under the influence of alcohol.

One of the alleged victims approached a vehicle filled with men and provoked a confrontation, said Davis police Sgt. Frank Tenedora.

“The intoxicated male started it by attacking one of the suspects through the passenger-side window,” he explained. ”They got out of the car, pushed the male to the ground, and started punching and kicking him.”

The suspects got back in their car, described as a blue Nissan Altima, and were last seen heading northbound on G Street.

Police initially believed the woman may have suffered a broken arm, but a trip to the emergency room showed it was only bruised. The male victim suffered minor facial injuries.

The victims decided not to file charges, Tenedora said, but officers are still investigating.
