A 54-year-old Woodland woman was one of two people who died in a vehicle collision Sunday on Interstate 5 near the town of Zamora, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Officer Rodney Fitzhugh said the crash occurred shortly before 10 a.m. when a southbound Mitsubishi changed lanes to the left in front of a GMC.
As the Mitsubishi changed lanes, it collided with the GMC. The Mitsubishi then traveled from the left southbound lane, across the center median, into the northbound lanes, Fitzhugh said in a news release.
“As the Mitsubishi continued traveling in a southerly direction within the northbound lanes, it collided with a Dodge traveling northbound in the right lane.”
The drivers of both the Mitsubishi and the Dodge died at the scene, Fitzhugh said. Yolo County coroner’s officials identified them Monday as Tammy Ketcherside, 54, of Woodland, and Kathleen McBride, 67, of Havana, Ill.
A passenger in the Dodge, 63-year-old Patrick McBride of Havana, Ill., was transported to the UC Davis Medical Center with major injuries. The crash also involved a Chevrolet that hit debris from the Mitsubishi, sending a 24-year-old Sacramento woman to the Med Center with minor injuries.
As of Monday it remained unclear whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the collision, as the investigation was still ongoing. Anyone with information about the crash is urged to call the Woodland CHP Office at 530-662-4685.
