The man accused of sexually assaulting a woman on the grounds of a downtown Davis church last weekend pleaded not guilty Wednesday to six felony charges and one misdemeanor count stemming from the alleged crime.

Yolo Superior Court Commissioner Janene Beronio also increased Christopher Lynn Romone Turk’s bail from $150,000 to $1 million during the arraignment hearing, then ordered him back to court Feb. 14 for a pre-hearing conference in Judge David Rosenberg’s courtroom.

Turk, a 25-year-old transient, is charged with felony counts of rape by force or threat, oral copulation by force or threat, second-degree robbery, false imprisonment, second-degree burglary and sexual battery. Each charge carries an enhancement alleging use of a deadly weapon.

The misdemeanor charge alleges that Turk damaged a cell phone during the incident.

Davis police said Turk brandished scissors at, then sexually assaulted, a 34-year-old woman who was looking for an animal adoption center Saturday morning at Davis Community Church, 412 C St. Neither Turk nor the woman is affiliated with the church, pastors there have said.

Turk was arrested Monday after a citizen who recognized his description from media reports saw him at The Marketplace shopping center on West Covell Boulevard and called police.
