The City Council will host a roundtable discussion Tuesday to hear arguments for and against four recommended changes to the Davis Fire Department made late last year by Interim Fire Chief Scott Kenley.

After a department-wide audit, Kenley suggested that the city adjust its response time goals, drop the service boundary between its borders and that of UC Davis’, consider combining management oversight with the university fire department and reduce staffing levels at two of the three fire stations in Davis.

The discussion will include fire administrators for the city and UCD, general administrators for the city and UCD and two representatives from Firefighters Union Local 3494.

Fire Department management will present arguments in favor of Kenley’s suggestions and the union will present arguments to keep the city’s policies status quo.

Following the presentations, residents will be granted time to address the specific recommendations and then council members will have the opportunity to ask questions.

At the end of the discussion, the City Council may take action on the various items.

City staff estimates that the roundtable discussion will start at 9 p.m. in the Community Chambers at City Hall, 23 Russell Blvd.
