A Woodland restaurant was damaged during a burglary and attempted arson Monday that police there are investigating as a hate crime due to racist graffiti left behind.

Woodland Police Corporal Francisco DeLeon said officers were dispatched at about 10 a.m. Monday to the Quiznos at 2000 E. Main St., where they first discovered evidence of the burglary.

“Upon further investigation, officers determined an attempted arson and vandalism had also occurred,” DeLeon said in a news release. “The suspect(s) attempted to light items on fire and also vandalized the business with a racist, derogatory term. The racist, derogatory term was written inside of the business and it appears to have been directed toward the business owners.”

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Woodland Police Department at 530-666-2411.
