Davis police announced Thursday the arrest of a 22-year-old Discovery Bay man on suspicion of assaulting another driver over a traffic dispute.
Leron Shelby is accused of punching the 65-year-old man in the face several times during a Dec. 29 altercation in the parking lot of The Marketplace shopping center on West Covell Boulevard, Lt. Paul Doroshov said.
“The assault followed a minor driving dispute in the parking lot,” Doroshov said. “The suspect approached the victim’s vehicle and struck the victim multiple times in the face through the car window.”
Doroshov said the suspect fled the area with a female companion following the 6:20 p.m. attack, leaving the victim with facial injuries, including broken bones. He was treated at Sutter Davis Hospital.
A police investigation into the incident led detectives to Shelby, who was taken into custody following a traffic stop in Davis on Thursday, Doroshov said. Shelby was booked into the Yolo County Jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, battery causing serious bodily injury and elder abuse.
Held on $130,000 bail, Shelby is scheduled to be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Yolo Superior Court.
