Man arrested after brandishing knife at first responders

A man who was unconscious in the median at Anderson Road and Covell Boulevard was arrested Saturday afternoon after he brandished a knife at the ambulance personnel who came to help him.

Sgt. James MacNiven said a medical call was made for Paul McQuown, a Davis transient. The Davis Fire Department and American Medical Response arrived, and at 12:35 p.m., firefighters requested an emergency response from Davis police because McQuown was “becoming combative.”

Officers arrived shortly thereafter and were told by the fire and ambulance crews that when they went to render aid, McQuown “stood up, walked away and said he would stab them” with a knife he was holding, MacNiven reported.

The AMR employee made a citizen’s arrest — because the incident happened outside of law enforcement’s presence — and McQuown was taken to the Yolo County Jail.
