A recent uptick in Woodland’s gang-related crimes triggered a multi-agency probation sweep Thursday night that resulted in 10 arrests, police said.

Dubbed a “violence suppression operation,” the sweep was conducted to gain possible leads regarding Tuesday’s stabbing homicide at an East Street mobile home park, at which officers were shot at during the investigation.

The operation involved searches and field interviews during which 43 people were contacted — 20 of them on probation or parole — and 10 were arrested on charges including for possession of ammunition, possession of a stolen handgun and high-capacity magazine, drug-related offenses and for outstanding warrants, according to a news release.

“Due to the success of this operation it is anticipated that similar operations will be conducted in the future,” Woodland police Sgt. Dallas Hyde said.

Other agencies participating in the sweep included the Davis Police Department’s Special Assignment and Focused Enforcement (SAFE) team, West Sacramento Special Investigations Unit, Yolo Narcotic Enforcement Team, Yolo County Sheriff’s Office and the Yolo County Gang Task Force.
