WOODLAND — A Davis day-care operator facing child molestation charges waived his right to a preliminary hearing Thursday in Yolo Superior Court, sending the case directly to the trial stage.

Eduardo Alejandro Letelier, 43, returns to court Sept. 8 for a trial-setting conference. He remains free on $1 million bail.

He has pleaded not guilty to charges that he molested a 4-year-old girl on July 13 at Ximena’s Daycare, the facility Letelier and his wife have operated out of their Braddock Court residence since 2001.

Authorities said Letelier attempted to flee the house when they served a search warrant the following day, resulting in an additional charge of resisting arrest.

The state Department of Social Services’ Community Care Licensing Division has temporarily suspended the Leteliers’ license to operate the day-care center while the case is pending.
